LGBTQ+ group welcomes committee approval of SOGIESC bill

Into the streets, marching in rainbows with pride

Baguio Pride goes way back in the year 2006. Yet, its first lacked the hue their flag exudes. In June of that year, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) group donned the pride month, clothed in all black with a rainbow paint on their faces. This, in their way, was to protest against political killings and series of violations of their civil and political rights.

A Waiting Game: Five Years and Counting

​The recent disappearance of indigenous people’s rights activists Dexter Capuyan and Gene Roz "Bazoo" De Jesus. The trumped-up charges of rebellion against the #NothernLuzon7, and the eight Baguio students victimized by Dumanon Makitongtong. I could go on about how political persecution is a growing problem in the North. One victim is already too many. This who were recently visited in their homes through the "Dumanon Makitongtong," is just a growing problem these students and activists are experiencing in the fight for what is right which highly endangers their lives.

P40 M grant for Baguio’s anti-dengue campaign

Baguio City received a P40 million grant for the National Dengue Awareness Month, Engr. Charles Carame, chief of the City Health Service Office (CHSO) confirmed.

​

Carame announced in the May 31 City Hall Hour of the Baguio City Public Information Office that the office of Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa provided the grant to the Department of Health (DOH). The DOH has already transferred the funding to the city government.

The LGBTQIA+ community still suffers different kinds of discrimination to this day. From public places to even inside their homes. And so, the fight for equal rights continues.

In the year 2000, the Anti-Discrimination Bill, or the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) Equality Bill, was proposed in Congress. A bill that aims to end gender-based discrimination.

​

This Pride month, re-learn what the SOGIE Bill is, as well as the kinds of discriminatory acts punishable under it.

Ayonna was two and Elmo was three when they ventured into the world of art. Both children were born with parents inclined to the arts. One has a visual artist mother, one has a father that has deeply enjoys art. Children are highly influenced by what they see and their exposure to art can spark their interest and imagination. Emulating what they see from their environment, these children will draw you into the world created on their canvas to see the colors and stories from their eyes.
